Most gluten-free beers are brewed using barley and then treated to remove gluten to below 20ppm, which is the recognised safe level for gluten-free products. This allows brewers to keep the flavour and character of traditional beer, while making it suitable for most people avoiding gluten.
If you have coeliac disease or a gluten intolerance, always check the label to make sure the product is suitable for you.
It used to. Modern gluten-free lagers are designed to taste as close to standard beer as possible, and in most cases, they’re very hard to tell apart.
